The 28th Rhythm 'n' Brews Beer Festival 2007
The Arts Centre, Vane Terrace, Darlington
A celebration of R ‘n’ B Music and real ale !

Thank you all for joining us in celebrating 25 years of Darlington CAMRA.

Once again the beer and cider choice and quality proved popular, and punters enjoyed the 25th anniversary theme with beers from breweries who started in 1982 on handpump along with beers brewed especially for the festival.

In the Beer of the Festival voting the results were as follows:-

  1st: Windie Goat (Failford, Ayrshire) - Peden's Cove 3.5%

2nd: Maypole (Eakring, Nottinghamshire) - Gate Hopper 4.0%

3rd: Highland Brewing Company (Birsay, Orkney) - Orkney IPA 4.3%

The winning voter was Corinna Russell of Aldbrough St John who won the £25 prize.

In the Cider of the Festival the voting results were as follows:-

1st: Gwynt y Ddraig (Llantwit Fadre, Glamorgan) - Black Dragon 8.2%

  2nd: Newton (Newton, Herefordshire) - Perry 7.0%

3rd: Dunkertons (Luntley, Herefordshire) Organic 7.0%

The winning voter was Catherine Lumb of Thirsk who won the £5 prize.

Besides the branch's 25th Anniversary, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of "De Heikantse Bierliefhebbers", our friends from Heikant in Belgium, who, in small numbers, often visit either the Spring Thing or Rhythm 'n' Brews Festival. This time 23 visited the festival and a festival special "De Heikantse Bierliefhebbers" was produced by Wear Valley Brewery in Bishop Auckland and each member was given a specially commissioned  t-shirt produced by the branch. Click here to see their photos of their visit.

Many thanks to those who donated their unused cash on the beers towards our chosen charity. A total of £191.30 was raised for the Great North Air Ambulance and a presentation was recently made to the charity.

Trevor and Linda, on our membership stand crew successfully recruited 18 new CAMRA members. 12 came from the Darlington Branch area, 2 from the Durham Branch area, 1 from the Cleveland Branch area and 3 from the North West Yorkshire Branch area.

Finally, we hope to see you at the Spring Thing Festival at the Arts Centre which is due to take place in mid-March 2008.

Thanks once again for making the Rhythm 'n' Brews event a success once more.

The Beer Festival Committee.
